The overseas flavour from Australia in Shanghai

8 Hearts

In Australia, on average people drink 4-6 cups of coffee per day, making it the ultimate everyday drink. However, Australian coffee culture is different from the traditional Italian way, as they prefer more smoother and crisper coffee unlike the Italians who enjoy stronger and more potent flavours.

In combination with these Australian preferences, which are similar to those who enjoy coffee in China, the latest café 8 Hearts based in Shanghai brings authentic and original Australian coffee flavour to its new community., founded by George Miller, Founder of Tiger Coffee.

Miller is a 40-year-experienced coffee entrepreneur. In Australia today, he operates Tiger Coffee which offers complete solutions to coffee businesses.

In 2018, when George was visiting China, he found a coffee market under rapid development. But he hardly found any Australian style cafe in Shanghai at the time, giving him the idea to bring Australia’s everyday flavours and culture into China. Miller met two coffee lovers in Shanghai, who became his partners and with their support, 8 Hearts came into being.

8 hearts, infinite love

8 Hearts is located on the ground floor of a business building at Fu Min road, Chang Le street.

“8, as a number, means luck and wealth in China, while turning horizontally into ∞, it means infinity. This is where 8 hearts came from”

Other than the logo, they care about small details of decoration inside the store. Articles on the wall tell everyone that 8 Hearts are from Australia and they offer quality coffee. Brown furniture and dark colours promote an atmosphere that make people inside feel calm and relaxed. All the office staff around are attracted to the spacious and comfy seats at 8 Hearts, even if it’s for a short time refreshment or more in-depth business talk.

Authentic Australian flavour

A flat white which is smooth on the palate with a perfectly balanced combination of sweetness, bitterness and sourness, will satisfy you in this early winter morning.

All beans from 8 Hearts are from Latitude Coffee, roasted by Henry Miller, son of George Miller, shipped from Brisbane Australia. Their blends recipes are the result of hundreds of cupping tests to reach the desired goal flavor profile. The beans are shipped from Australia every two weeks, to ensure optimum freshness and quality.

Miller adds, “Different from the regular coffee flavour in the market, our coffee flavour tries to be medium sour, low bitter with smooth mouthfeel, which is different from the flavour people are used to. We hope for our customer to experience an authentic Australian coffee.”

A unique experience from Cameo

Besides freshly roasted beans, one Black Eagle and two white Eversys Cameo sitting on the bar will also help you to explore coffee flavor further.

Miller told us that Eversys Cameo is very popular in the Australia coffee market. Based on powerful intelligent systems, the machine is very efficient and makes the result quite compelling. Its patented e’FOAM technique and 1.5-Step system can froth milk perfectly. The remote-control system can monitor maintenance and any problem from anywhere in the world.

8 hearts stated that in the upcoming new stores they would stay with the Everysys Cameo as their machine of choice. “Stable performance and the intelligent system are its biggest advantages. I believe it will be even more popular in the future.”

8 Hearts launched a promotion in November, to encourage consumers to experience Cameo’s powerful functions. At the time, they offered long black and latte at very special price. For the occasion, they featured a special blend with a rich, nutty flavour for Cameo. It not only makes customers have more choices by tasting the richness of coffee flavours, but also helps them find their favourite cup.
